Call for PhD Forum

Ph.D. Forum on Mobile Data Management

Following the success of previous years, MDM 2020 will host a Ph.D. Forum (Doctoral Colloquium) on Mobile Data Management. The Forum aims at providing Ph.D. students and recent Ph.D. graduates with an opportunity to present their dissertation research, recently accomplished or still ongoing, in all areas of mobile data management. The venue also offers an excellent opportunity for Ph.D. students to network with other junior and senior researchers directly, exchange ideas, receive constructive feedback, guidance, as well as learn about emerging problems tackled by the community. An interactive mentoring panel, with panelists from both industry & academia, is also planned with the aim of preparing Ph.D. students and recent graduates for their future career and professional life.

Ph.D. Forum Format

The Forum will be organized as a regular session of MDM2020 attended by a wide range audience, including experts in mobile data management from industry, academia, and government. During the Forum, each presenter will have a brief presentation while the senior members of the community will provide constructive technical comments. Best presentation awards will be given to the most innovative ideas/efforts presented at the Forum.

Submission and Publication

We encourage submissions from students who are currently enrolled in doctoral programs and graduates who completed their Ph.D. dissertations since July 2019. Submissions should be single-authored, while contributions of advisors and co-authors can be acknowledged in the abstract. All submissions need to follow the IEEE Computer Society Proceedings Manuscript Formatting Guidelines. The templates can be found here. The page limit is two pages. A peer-review process will ensure quality and relevance of the proposed manuscript. In case of acceptance, the length of the camera-ready version will also be limited to two pages. The accepted submissions will appear in the proceedings of MDM 2020.

Participation

Authors of accepted submissions are expected to register for MDM 2020 and to give a short presentation at the forum. To motivate junior researchers to participate in the main MDM events, MDM 2020 will offer a special student rate for conference registration to the presenters at the Ph.D. forum.
